Erin and Hig are environmental explorers with a taste for off the grid
adventure. Erin’s new book\, A Long Trek Home\: 4\,000 Miles by Boot\,
Raft and Ski\, chronicles their harrowing 4\,000 mile expedition
from Seattle to the first Aleutian Island on foot in early 2007. This was an incredible expedition\, and we learn about the people they
met along the way\, and the conservation issues they set out to explore -
from dwindling salmon populations to unsustainable logging and pebble
mining.
They finished their trek in 13 months\, with a lifetime of photographs and experiences behind them\, and the anticipation of their first child. They decided to start a new life where their journey ended - in a remote fishing village in Alaska\, where they run their online environmental non-profit\, groundtruthtrekking.org.

Carole Maso’s literary career can only be described as meteoric. Among the various awards she has received are the Lannan Literary Fellowship for Fiction (1993)\, National Endowment for the Arts Literature Grant (1988)\, National Endowment for the Arts Emerging Artist Reading Grant (1987)\, New York Foundation for the Arts Grant (1987) and the W.K. Rose Fellowship in the Creative Arts (1985). Works she has published include The American Woman in the Chinese Hat (1994)\, Pandora’s Box\, a screenplay (1993)\, Ava (1993)\, The Art Lover (1990) and Ghost Dance (1986)\, among others.
Elise Partridge‘s Fielder’s Choice (2002) was shortlisted for the Lampert Memorial Award for best first book of poems in Canada. Her second book\, Chameleon Hours (2008) was featured in the “Poet’s Choice” column in the Washington Post. Chameleon Hours was nominated for the British Columbia Book Prize in poetry and won the 2009 Canadian Authors Association Award for Poetry\, which recognizes “poetry that achieves excellence without sacrificing popular appeal.” Partridge’s poems have been published or are forthcoming in American\, Canadian\, British\, and Irish journals\, including The New Yorker\, Poetry (Chicago)\, The New Republic\, The Yale Review\, The Southern Review and elsewhere. Her work has been broadcast on Garrison Keillor’s The Writer’s Almanac and on CBC radio\, and has appeared on Poetry Daily as well as on the Vancouver and Toronto transit systems.

Joel Long\, an English teacher at Rowland Hall and a recipient of a master's degree in creative writing from the University of Utah\, and Dave Hall\, a landscape artist and former Rowland Hall teacher who left teaching to paint\, have come together to create a unique look at how poetry and painting inform one another. Knowing Time By Light is Long's second book of poetry and the inspiration behind the show\, Seven Poems and Seven Paintings\, a collaboration between Long and Hall.
Long will read from a selection of work based on Hall’s paintings and featured in his new book\, which will be available at the event.
Long’s poetry has appeared in numerous anthologies\, and his book Winged Insects won the White Pine Press Poetry Prize. He received the 2009 Mayor’s Artist Award for Literary Arts.
Hall’s tonalist landscapes hang locally at Phillips Gallery in Salt Lake and Meyer Gallery in Park City.
The poet and artist have roots in the Missouri River country of southwest Montana – an area that has inspired both.

receiving a B.F.A. in Theatre at the University of Utah before moving to
Portland and discovering she wanted to be writing songs and making
music! She's been performing theatre and music for over fifteen years
and teaching children in many capacities for over six years. She
currently teaches theatre and yoga classes and guitar lessons and
performs as a singer-songwriter around the Portland metro.
Eric
McEuen is a multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter originally
from near Albuquerque\, New Mexico. He started playing rock and folk
guitar in high school and received a B.A. in music from Brandeis
University in Massachusetts. His fifteen years of performing experience
includes rock\, folk and bluegrass bands\, choral singing\, Renaissance
music groups\, and entertaining both children and adults as a solo
artist. He currently teaches guitar lessons and performs around the
Portland area as a solo artist and backup musician.

has chaired the National Book Award committee for Young People’s

Jerry Delaney will read from his book\, Where Have you Gone Billy Mayfair?
Delaney tells the story of the lawless West of the 1860s and the legend of the Montana vigilantes\, drawing on contemporary research to reveal how the official history got twisted for personal and political purposes.
Jerry Delaney grew up in Polson\, Montana\, graduated from Georgetown University and has worked as a freelance writer\, editor\, teacher and public affairs director. His play\, “The Fall\,” based on an Albert Camus novel\, was presented in Santa Fe in 2000. He lives in Santa Fe with his companion\, Deon Hilger.

Peterson graduated in 1990 from the University of Utah Physical Therapy Program and specializes in Outpatient Orthopedics. She is a member of the APTA and the Orthopedic Specialty Section. For 18 years\, Cynthia has taught and developed a Back School\, Neck School and Jaw School. These schools empower patients by teaching them pertinent anatomy\, postures\, body mechanics\, ergonomics\, how to start an exercise and stretching program and apply core stabilization\, nasal diaphragmatic breathing\, how to identify and eliminate trigger points in muscles and their possible causes\, first aid and problem solving techniques.
