Brady Udall and The Lonely Polygamist

Tue, 05/04/2010 - 7:00pm

Brady Udall visits the King's English Bookshop to celebrate the release of The Lonely Polygamist.

How can a man with four wives be lonely? The old adage, "Two's company, three's a crowd" has never been truer than in this uproarious, and improbably touching tale of Golden Richards, construction boss, man of God, and bewildered soul. This hapless father of 28 is continually befuddled: he doesn't understand his kids, his wives, his boss, or his employees. And then he discovers Huila, who is kind, gentle, and, thank heavens, soft-spoken. She is also his boss's wife. Every chapter (sometimes every paragraph) is a vignette, and each is by turns hilarious and moving. Truly, Brady Udall is our modern-day Charles Dickens.

Udall is also the author of Letting Loose the Hounds as well as The Miracle Life of Edgar Mint, an international bestseller. His work has appeared in The Paris Review, Playboy, GQ and Esquire, and his stories and essays have been featured on National Public Radio’s This American Life. He teaches in the MFA program at Boise State University, and lives in Boise, Idaho and Teasdale, Utah with his wife and children.

A ticket is required for book-signing portion of this event. Customers who purchase a copy of The Lonely Polygamist from The King's English Bookshop will receive two signing-line tickets. Seating is general admission.
