The Red Book reflects not only Jung’s personal life experience, but an understanding of the larger collective experience as well. C.G. Jung worked on The Red Book between 1913 and 1930, historically a very difficult period. Published 78 years later, questions arise about its relevance to us in the 21st century, both individually and culturally. Our current global situation is not that dissimilar from the period when Jung took up this work. This lecture will explore the questions of how it is relevant to us today, and how it can contribute to a healthier sense of self and world view. We will discuss how to read it, and explore how the ideas that emerged through Jung’s personal experience were then formulated into his theory of the nature and workings of the psyche.
Nancy Furlotti, M.A., is a Jungian Analyst in private practice in Los Angeles and is past President of the C.G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles. Jung’s unpublished writings, and is Vice-president of the Archive for Research in Archetypal Symbolism.
