Confessions of a Redheaded Stepchild is a collection of wistful and wildly insane memories told through the eyes of an optimistic kid turned jaded curmudgeon who somehow managed to survive it all. Scott Perry is a product of your run-of-the-mill, American family — 19 kids, four (maybe five) moms, and two(ish) dads. He grew up in an innocent time when kids drank out of garden hoses, played Little League baseball, and poisoned their classroom guppies. His was a childhood jam-packed with bikes, bullies, grandmas, and growth spurts that slowly changed into a world of travel, trysts, Jello, and gin. Toss in a flying bull, a hypnotist, and two lovestruck mutts, and you’ll get a taste of a life that began in the idyllic streets of Poplar Grove.
Scott Perry is a Salt Lake City native who has spent all but three years of his life north of 21st South. He is an award-winning art director, creative director, and writer who has spent most of his career in the advertising and publishing worlds. His essays have appeared in Salt Lake Magazine, Catalyst Magazine, and QSaltLake Magazine. He is both a fine art painter and an internationally-known Jello sculptor.
Scott now spends his days doting over his nephews and nieces and telling the other kids to get off his lawn.
