Kimi Eisele | The Lightest Object in the Universe

This event is free and open to the public and will take place at the bookshop.

Kimi Eisele will read from and sign her debut novel The Lightest Object in the Universe

The global economy has collapsed, the electrical grid has failed, a deadly strain of the flu is decimating communities, and starving, aimless children armed to the teeth terrorize whoever, whenever they can for sustenance. But this is a post-apocalyptic dystopian novel that transforms a bleak story into one that feels refreshingly different. Amid the chaos, former high school teacher Carson heads west on foot to find the woman he loves, Beatrix. An activist who has devoted herself to transforming her community into a safe harbor for all who need it, Beatrix tries her hardest to sway desperate souls from being taken in by an evangelical preacher who beckons them to The Center, an alleged utopia where, it is promised, they will find all they need. Whether Carson and Beatrix find each other, though, relies on fifteen-year-old Rosie Santos, who travels reluctantly with her grandmother to The Center, finally finding her voice and making difficult choices that could ultimately decide the fate of the cross‑country lovers.
