TKE Faux Newbery Medal Award Contest

The Newbery Medal was named for eighteenth-century British bookseller John Newbery. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.

In 1922, Hendrick Van Loon’s book, The Story of Mankind, won the very first John Newbery Medal Award. On Monday, January 24, 2022, the 100th Newbery Medal Award will be announced.

Between now and January 24th, The King’s English Bookshop invites you to chime in on your favorites among the 99 Newbery Medal winners!

We invite you to stop by the bookshop to take a look at a list of the past winners, along with a few books we would love to see win the 100th award! Complete a ballot to vote for your top 3 choices of previous winners as we determine the most beloved of the esteemed 99. Ballots will only be available at the bookshop.

On the evening of January 23, we will announce TKE's readers' choice for the winning book from the past 99 winners, and 2 runners-up. From the ballots received, we will draw winners for some Newbery 100 related prizes! Winners will be notified via email.

We are excited to discover the choices of our King’s English readers! Happy Reading!
